Marketing to parents via kids
October 29th, 2008 by Ingrid Cliff
Most people automatically think that marketing to kids as a way to get to their parents is slightly suspect – but there are ways you can do this that creates a win-win for everyone.
I was reading the Business Mums Magazine blog where they talked about having colouring in sheets for kids (branded with your logo of course). If they are different and the child enjoys colouring the picture, it is likely the parent will proudly put it on display.
Ideally have a graphic designer or cartoonist create some unique images for you – it makes your business stand out from the pack.
Having colouring pictures available for kids to colour in while their parents are in your business is a great way to get uninterrupted time with the parent.
Another client of mine gets great success from advertising in school newsletters. The school benefits from the income, the client gets new business at very low cost (the most expensive ad cost her $15) and the kids benefit from the school funding.
So – what opportunities could you be missing out on with low cost marketing to parents via kids?
Until next time

I love advertising in school newsletters. Another thing that I’ve done is flyers in pockets at my son’s kinder. This is great when you have kinder kids, and some kinders are happy for you to give them a donation in exchange for distributing you flyers.

Isn’t it amazing how effective child marketing is in reaching adults? I recently saw an ad with pictures of kids having fun participating in an art project along with the web site for the business. I checked out the web site and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with kids.
