What to Write in Business Christmas Cards
|
It's that time of year again. Christmas card writing time!
If you choose to send out cards to your clients or suppliers – then make sure you don't waste the contact by just scribbling your name on the inside of a stock standard card. That is about as meaningful as saying "have a nice day" – people notice!
If you want your card (and your business) to be memorable, take the time to personalise your message.
So what should you say?
1. Thanks – Sincerely thank the person/business for being your client or supplier throughout the year.
2. A memory – Share a memory or story of your shared experience this year. Your goal is to make them smile at the memory with you.
3. Quick update – Business Christmas Cards are not the place for long drawn out newsletters. A one or two sentence update about changes in your workplace or a shared success will suffice.
4. Future focus – If you will be working with the business in the New Year, share with them how much you are looking forward to working with them again.
5. Memorable quote – When all else fails, find your favourite business quote or inspirational saying, and share that. You can add in a sentence explaining why this particular quote is relevant to your business or the recipient's business to make it more personal.

The sign off
Christmas cards are not the place to use stuffy office sign-offs. "Yours Sincerely" and "Yours Faithfully" should remain only on printed letterhead paper.
For Christmas cards try something a bit more personal: With best wishes; Wishing you all the best of the season; Wishing you happiness and joy this season; Hoping you have a safe, merry & joyful Christmas; Wishing you a prosperous and enjoyable New Year.
Get in the mood first!
As a professional writer, the best tip I can give you is to get into the right frame of mind before you put pen to paper. Put on your favourite Christmas songs – the ones you loved as a child or the ones that make you feel the magic of the season.
Light a candle, turn on some Christmas lights or burn some Christmas scented essential oils in an oil burner – all of these help create the right mood.
Only once you have felt that first touch of Christmas in your heart, pick up the pen.
And if you feel more like Scrooge than Santa, go outside your workplace and find a charity to donate foodstuffs or money to. Giving to others helps you to also feel great. This feeling will come through in your Christmas card words.
