It's Spring here in Australia. We are starting to get some lovely warm days, which in our household means clothes review time. Given my kids have a habit of growing 3cm each season, this is a regular occurrence in our household. You see, at the change of each season we go through all of our clothes to see what no longer fits, what needs repairing and what new items of clothes we may now need.
Have you ever considered that your website is the same as the clothes you wear? Your website presents your business looking its best. It highlights the personality of you and your business and it tells people about whether or not you are traditional, faddish, or hopelessly out of date.
The change of seasons is the perfect time to remember to check over your website, in the same way you check over your clothes at the change of seasons.
Here are the essential 7 checks each business owner should conduct on their website at the change of seasons.
1. Currency
Read over all of the information contained on your website to make sure it is still current. Check for outdated prices, people who may have left and expired offers.
2. Fit
Check to see that the services offered still match your business direction and service model. If the services no longer fit your model, then remove the service from your website.
3. Gaps
Look to see what may be missing from your site. Are you missing information about core services? What are the commonest questions you have received over the past few months – can you answer them on your site? Add in new and fresh content to fill the gaps in your site.
4. Working order
Do all of the links work on your site? Does every button and navigation button take you to where you are supposed to go?
5. Check for dropped stitches
Print out and proofread every word on every line, looking for missing words or spelling errors. Often you can't see your own typos, so it may pay to hire a proofreader to check your site for you.
6. Tidy loose threads
When a site is created, you may have left some loose ends in terms of SEO. Your site pages may not be correctly search engine optimised, or you may be missing some code tags on your pages. Go through (or have an SEO company go through for you) to check that your site is 100% on-page optimised for the search engines.
6. Overall look
Is your site looking dated? It may be time to invest in a new or refreshed website, with smoother code that works across all web platforms. Just as clothing styles have a definite use by date; website style also needs to keep pace with the times.

I have seen a number of offers for website reviews. This one has substance. It seems to tie it all together from not just the web site itself but to the overall plan and strategy. I like it.
